Persian food is colourful and tasty. But sometimes, it can also be… strange.
Here are 4 Persian food that will tickle your taste buds!
1. The “Dour”
The dough, which is pronounced “dour”, is a particular drink made of water, yogurt, milk and seasoned with salt and dried mint. Quite a surprising mixture but the majority of Iranians love this drink, which perfectly goes with the famous dish of “Chelo Kabab” (white rice and meat skewers).
If you go to Iran, try the dough, it will for sure tickle your taste buds 🙂
2. The “Ghormeh Sabzi”
One of the most emblematic Persian dishes and certainly one of the least…”aesthetic”. The basis of this dish? White rice. So far so good.
But things get a bit strange when it comes to the sauce you have to put on the rice. This sauce has a very strong greenish color as it is mainly composed of 3 herbs (“sabzi” means herbs) that we wash, chop and cook with oil, meat and red beans.
But as they say, do not judge a book by its cover and that is so true for the Ghormeh Sabzi, which remains one of the tastiest Persian dishes !
3 – The onion
Everybody knows what an onion is. But what you might not know is that there is a proper Persian way to eat an onion, which is to literally … crunch in it! Surprising right? You have to cut the onion into large slices, and then crunch in while eating your food. And it tastes actually good!
Note that no “real” Persian will ever eat a Ghormeh Sabzi without onion. You’ve been warned 🙂
4. The “Lavashak”
Yumi … If you like sour-sweet flavours, here you go! The Lavashak is a slightly acidfruit paste presented shaped in rolls or thin sheets. The most commonly used fruits are plums, pomegranates, apples, cherries, strawberries, apricots and grapes.
Children love this, but so do grown-ups.
